Ana Larsson (Larsson Textil Design) invites us to her studio in Gros to experiment with ceramics. You will learn to create your own artisanal ceramic vase.
With the churros technique, we start by rolling strips of clay or pottery, similar to ‘churros’. These are overlapped and shaped to form the basic structure of the vase, with the desired shape and size. Due to the way the clay churros are rolled and stacked, pieces created with this technique tend to have a more organic texture. The irregularities in shape and texture can add a characteristic charm and a sense of authenticity. Because of the flexibility of the clay in this technique, it’s possible to create more complex and organic designs.
This workshop focuses on creating medium-sized pieces, approximately 25 cm tall. To achieve this, we have decided to split the process into two sessions, allowing the clay at the base of the piece to slightly harden before continuing with the construction. If you can only attend for one day, we can adapt the workshop to a slightly smaller piece. Please get in touch via our email contacto@pottopottery.com and let me know without obligation. I’ll explain how we can do it. The price in that case would be 65 euros.
This technique immerses us in a meditative state, where concentration becomes inherent to the process, thanks to the repetitive gesture of joining the clay of the upper churro with the lower layer, keeping our minds focused and allowing us to fully enjoy the creative process. It’s an excellent way to dedicate time to artistic creation.
Once the pieces are made, decorative techniques such as sgraffito, inlays, and slips will be applied. Subsequently, we will proceed to glaze them and bake them to give them a finished look. In approximately two to three weeks, we will notify you to come and pick up your piece.
